Yu-Te Alan Hsieh

Principal Investigator

Assistant Professor in Chemical Oceanography

I am a geochemist and chemical oceanographer. I am interested in isotope geochemistry and applications of using geochemical tracers to understand the ocean. One of my primary research goals is to apply isotope tracers to improve our understanding of different chemical inputs and outputs in the ocean (e.g., atmospheric deposition, continental runoffs, mid-ocean ridges, sediment-water interface, marine productivity and internal cycling).

Po-Kai Daniel Yang

Graduate Student

Daniel is a masters student. He graduated from the University of Hong Kong with a bachelor’s degree in Chemistry and a minor in Japanese. He likes traveling and making new friends. His thesis will focus on to what extent biological uptake of Ba contribute to marine fractionation of Ba isotopes.

Ya-Zhen Jen Wu

Graduate Student

Jen is also a masters student at IONTU. She has a broad interest in isotope geochemistry research. Currently she is working on a project about applying Ba isotopes to study cold seeps and mud volcanoes around the South West continental margins of Taiwan. When she is not in the labs, she likes outdoor activities and enjoys the beauty of nature.

You-Cheng Thomas Yang

Graduate Student

Thomas joined MISO as a summer program student. He has been working on projects that focus on using barium (Ba) isotopes in Singaporean corals to reconstruct the changes in Southeast Asian monsoons. He is now a master's student at IONTU and will continue to work on Ba isotopes in marine environments. He is also very good at volleyball.

I-Jy Hsieh

Administrative Assistant

I-Jy has joined our group from August 2022, but she has been working as an research assistant in IONTU for many years. She likes Taiwanese food, pop music and walks.

Meng-Hsin Morris Wu

Research Assistant

Morris, a dedicated ocean lover, earned his MS degree in coral reef ecology from IONTU. Despite being introverted, he passionately engages in outdoor pursuits like SCUBA diving, snorkeling, and hiking. These experiences drive his ambition for influential research and revealing the ocean's secrets. With a deep affinity for nature and a strong curiosity for ocean exploration, Morris invites us to share in his journey of oceanic discovery.

Flora Wu

Undergraduate Student

Flora is an undergraduate student in the Department of Agricultural Chemistry at NTU. She falls in love with the ocean after learning scuba-diving and is strongly considering to make ocean exploration as a lifelong career. She is currently working on a project about chemical effects of Ba isotopes in Yinyang Sea, an acid mine drainage system in the Northern Taiwan. She has a diverse range of interests with a particular passion for photography. She enjoys discovering different possibilities in life through the lens of her camera.
